Continuing our efforts at the village of Tudun Wada in Nasarawa state, Nigeria, where we previously funded and built a borehole for water access for 5000 villagers, we are now funding the construction of a brand new school building that will have state of the art facilities for that region of the country and renewed equipment so that these 1500 kids may go to school and learn comfortably without concern. As of right now, there are only 3 classrooms, so half of the kids go to school half of the day, and the other half go the rest of the day. This limits their access to proper education and limits the number of teachers in the school to a handful, when they deserve two to three times that number to properly address the needs of these kids. They currently do not possess a proper testing center or study hall, so we will construct these, along with renewing their seats, benches, books, and the teacher’s equipment such as chalkboards, projectors, and writing utensils. If money permits, we will also equip the school with boreholes for water, air condition, Wi-Fi connection and computers to continue their pen pal project that we began with Annandale High School in Virginia, USA, and possibly even transportation, as they must walk many kilometers in nearly 40 degree Celsius heat every day to reach their schooling. This will be a long term and cost intensive project that will require tens of thousands of dollars of fundraising and likely government grants, but such an example will motivate and spur neighboring communities and schools to push the government for similar expenditures to improve their children’s education as well. Let us be the example for the rest of the nation and the world of what can be done when people bring their minds together to help the next generation.
